The layout of Ealing’s Southall Broadway was changed to improve safety for pedestrians, reduce traffic speeds and provide a better environment for shoppers and visitors. Design features include:
- New boulevard zones down the centre of the road allowing pedestrians to cross the street in two stages, and cross at a variety of locations
- Wider footways which reduce crowding
- Removal of signalised crossings and introduction of a 20mph zone, smoothing out the traffic flow and eliminating stop starts at traffic lights
- Complete resurfacing of road, with new street lights, CCTV cameras, bins and benches
